Why will my computer only reconize an expired version of norton subscription so lately i cannot get my upd?antispyware

Hi,

I currently use Norton, however I've found that a lot of the free tools out there are just as good if not better. If you have paid for a current subscription you will be entitled to support directly from Norton so you will get quick direct help from them.

Symantec themselves suggest contacting them to get this fixed, however if it doesn't work they suggest then trying the steps in the link here:

Below I've list 4 tool groups and tools to help protect your system well.

1) Firewall - ZoneAlarm, which you can download here:

2) Virus Protection - AVG, which you can download here:

3) Spyware Removal - Spybot Search %26 Destroy, which you can download here:

4) Adware Removal - AdaWare, which you can download here:

What is the fastest download configuration when downloading torrents? Is there any good tutorials?

I have followed portforward and porttrigger.com and I am still having problems. I am using Utorrent to download torrents, A WRT54GS v4.0 as my router which has third party software (tofu 13b by hyperwart), Norton Systemworks as my firewall and anti-virus/spyware and trying to use porttrigger by porttrigger.com in order to maximize my downloading capabilities. Does anyone have a good configuration for the equipment I am using or does anyone know which settings work best in norton, utorrent and hyperwart (the router itself)? If not, does anyone know of any sites which will explain torrent downloading and how to get it's full capabilities? I am an expert at computers and windows networking. I just don't understand what I am missing here? If anyone has any good hacks or suggestions on amazing downloading setup please let me know I have gone round and round with this issue. Maybe I am over analyzing? Thank you so much for those who take the time to answer. My family appreciates it.

Joey

I can't really help you with the router specific stuff because I don't own one of those myself, but something that a lot of people don't know to do for best BitTorrent downloads is to implement the '80% rule''. Because when using BitTorrent there's a lot of traffic going up from your machine as well as down from other people, your upstream connection can often get swamped simply through sending out data that other people request. If this happens your download speeds will drop through the floor because your client doens't get a chance to request any file pieces you yourself need. To stop this happening it's strongly recommended you cap the global amount of upstream bandwidth your client's allowed to use to about 80% of your max upstream capability. So, if you've only got a 256kb upstream like me, you'd cap it at around 208kb (or around 25kBps because the torrent client tend to quote number in kilobytes rather than kilobits).

So, for uTorrent specifically, you want to go into the preferences, then the Connection section and set the ''Global maximum upload rate'' to about 80% of your upstream bandwidth (in kilobytes as I said).

As for a general guide to BT, try this:

Will Norton Ghost 10 put all of my registry, user profiles and programs back exactly how I had them

I created an image of all of my partitions prior to installing a new video card last week. Since then I have installed a update to a game that I play and have created a few important files. Now I am having some problems with my computer, particulary not being able to access the user profile settings in computer managment. I believe that the problem is the registry cleaner that is built into Symantec SystemWorks. I would like to go back to how things were before I installed the video card. Would it be a good idea to use my ghost image to go back to that date? Also would my registry, user profiles and programs etc be put back EXACTLY?

Will Norton Ghost 10 put all of my registry, user profiles and programs back exactly how I had them @ Ghostinganti virus scan

Yes. The ghost program makes a copy of your system at the time of ghosting. If you restore your backup, the computer will be exactly the way it was when the backup was created. When you copy a partition, you copy all contents, including the registry.

yup norton ghost can do that.ghosting make an exact mirror copy of your system during the time of gosthing that is why other people used ghosting to backup their entire system.

I want to set my computer to require a password only for certain hours of the day?

I want to set a password for my computer, but one that only has to be used between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. I have Windows XP Media Center and Norton SystemWorks Standard Edition.

Might there be something free I can download that will do this?

I want to set my computer to require a password only for certain hours of the day?anti virus protection

It's possible. Run a screen saver at night that requires a password to unlock it. That option is right in the screen saver menu. Or just password protect your account and log out at night.

Is your computer on from 11 PM to 5am?

For what reason?

To password protect a computer its really an all or nothing thing! Either you always want your computer protected or, you dont care!

I could see more if you wanted to password protect it like between 3-7pm so your kids won't get on it with out asking you!

There might be a program out there but not many (and probably not free).
now u have to install chilled control software
i dont think its possible

In Outlook 2003, when I send out email, the ''J's'' turn out as '':-)'' and the ''L's'' turn out as '':-(''. Why?agv

This is strange as I occasionally have my :-) at my signature in Outlook 2003 turn out as a ''J'' in another's email with Outlook 2003, but not in my sent file. It seems to depend on the receiver. I had a friend ask me what the ''J'' meant--they felt stupid, as they thought that they did not know the jargon! I am only guessing here, but something tells me that because of the ''J'' and ''L'' being shaped like the smily/frowny faces that these are some kind of shortcut or language for these symbols that come through in certain cases. I do not know what the dynamics are, but with me it is only occasionally, unless people never mention it. :-)
