I've biked and driven in Europe quite a bit now - I've not had problems with credit cards. One problem you might have is extended lunch breaks, particularly in more out-of-the-way bits of France. Get fuel in the morning if you might need it. Not a problem on toll roads.

The stopping Aires (can't be certain of the spelling now) have mixed facilities. Some just provide toilets, some full services.

People tend to pull out of the way for bikes more - which is nice.

toll roads are much quicker - but less interesting. If you've got the time use some of the main non-toll routes, just to make a change. I've found people in out of the way places to be quite friendly.

If you pack well you can bring back a dozen bottles of wine in your luggage.

Keep all your documents with you when driving. They can be keen on insurance and ownership.

Belgian drivers seem to be the worst! Like your Gran on speed.

not driven a bike overseas myself but a pal has. he says.. dont get caught speeding cos its on the spot fines!!!! so be aware of the limits drive safely and have a great time.
